About the Artist:

I started drawing, thanks to my father, around age 5 and it just kinda got out of control! Formal training at Virginia Commonwealth University, but restlessness drove me to join the Army and I stayed for 20 years. I’m now retired and living in Florida where I get plenty of inspiration for painting and I get to ride my motorcycle year round! My media includes oils, acrylics, pencil, and getting back into pottery!

German Amaya

German Amaya

Military Service: Marines

Service Status: Veteran

State: WA

About the Artist:

Born to a Mexican mother and Salvadorian father in Pasadena, Texas, German Javier Amaya embraced Spanish as his first language, navigating the challenges of assimilation into a culture that shaped his identity. In his formative years, Amaya actively participated in sports and music programs during high school. At the age of 18, driven by a desire for a profound change, he enlisted in the Marine Corps, breaking away from the religious upbringing that seemed incongruent with the realities of his evolving journey. His professional path has been diverse, spanning roles as an aircraft electrician, a contributor to NASA projects, and an educator at the collegiate level. These experiences afforded him unique insights into the American culture, and, more specifically, the Hispanic American experience. It became evident that the community lacked representation, as they straddle the cultural nuances between the countries they represent.

About the Artist:

My journey in art began when I was born. I started to create art at a preschematic stage of my development. People, places, and things have influenced my art. It was my mentors that really had an impact on my artistic endeavors. They are: Professor Jeff Nelson, Butte College; Professor Marion Epting, CSUC; Professor Grace Hertlein, CSUC; Professor Roger Coqart, Brussel, Belgium; Dr. Herbert W. Franke, Munich, Germany; I believe I should mention my parents, for without them I would not have been conceived. Finally, my sisters, Michelle and Linda who tolerated me as a brother, influencing me in more ways than one. They guided me with their opinions and critiquing. My philosophy of art, it is a reflection of technology, social implications, and a reflection of your surrounding environment.

Joseph Juvenal

Joseph Juvenal

Military Service: Army

Service Status: Veteran

State: OR

About the Artist:

Pen and Ink. That's me. Detailed realistic inks, sometimes based on comic book art, mostly just renderings that use stipple, or lines or both. Also, oils, watercolor, and whatever I want to try. I did many painting on a Mac, when I worked as an artist for the Navy at TOPGUN. So, I've done a lot of digital, meant as magazine illustrations. But, I am back to my first love; pen and ink. I like coloring the ink work, so I publish both when I do a new drawing. You can put a LOT of my art on totes, mugs, t-shirts, so on. I am an old decrepit Vietnam veteran, so my art reflects that. I mostly sell prints, framed, canvas, posters, and even t-shirts, mugs and totes.
